SAWYER COUNTY (DrydenWire) – A traffic stop in Sawyer County on the evening of March 2, 2025, led to the arrest of a Hayward man after deputies uncovered evidence of fentanyl distribution. Authorities say the vehicle’s occupants admitted to purchasing drugs from Johnny Ray Smith Jr. (pictured), age 45, just before the stop.
The search of Smith’s residence on Frogg Road and the arrest of Smith, Jr., uncovered fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, suspected cutting agents, and additional controlled substances, resulting in multiple charges for both Smith Jr. and Johnny Smith, Sr., age 66, who was also arrested.
Charges are proceeding in Sawyer County Circuit Court against Smith, Sr.
Smith Jr., already on supervision for previous drug convictions, has now been sentenced for both his previous drug convictions and his new Fentanyl related charges.
