Polk County ATV Crash Kills Rider After Collision With Deer

POLK COUNTY — A male ATV rider died Tuesday afternoon after hitting a deer on 150th Avenue. Authorities say the operator was not wearing a helmet, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday August 19, 2025, at 3:34pm, the Polk County Emergency Communication Center received a report of an ATV crash on 150th Avenue, east of County H in the town of Apple River (Central Polk County).

First responders discovered a deceased male in the roadway.

The ATV was traveling eastbound on 150th Avenue and struck a deer. The operator of the ATV was pronounced deceased on scene.

The operator of the ATV was not wearing a helmet and suffered trauma as a result of the collision with the deer.

The name of the operator will be released at a later time.

The Wisconsin DNR and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate this crash.

Assisting with this crash were Apple River Fire, Northwestern Municipal EMS, the Wisconsin DNR, and the Polk County Medical Examiner.
