In Memory of William Zimmer


March 3, 1963 - March 16, 2022

William “Bill” Charles Zimmer Age 59, of Birchwood, WI, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 3, 1963 in Rice Lake, WI to William and MaryAnn (Sirek) Zimmer.

Bill graduated from Cameron High School in 1981 and graduated from UW Barron County and UW Platteville with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Department of Transportation for 22 years. Bill was married to Audrey Buxton on December 11, 1988 in Rice Lake. Bill enjoyed skiing and was a ski patrol at Hardscrabble and Christie Mountain for many years. He enjoyed gardening, kayaking, mountain biking, cutting wood, floating down the river and camping. Bill was a town board member for the Township of Edgewater from 2005-2022.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Zimmer; 4 children, Hannah Zimmer (Jason Johnson), Joseph Zimmer, Ellie Zimmer and Emma Zimmer; mother, MaryAnn Hensel; 7 siblings, Mark Zimmer, Rochelle (Tom) Fletcher, Rose Klatt, Linda (Mark) Rogers, Annette Crotteau, Andy (Tammy) Zimmer and Steven (Amy) Zimmer; stepsister, Julie (Lee) McClaine; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Dorothy Buxton; brothers-in-law, Bob (Melissa) Buxton and Gary (Elizabeth) Buxton; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Zimmer; stepfather, Frederick “Fritz” Hensel; a brother-in-law, Timothy Klatt.

Prayer Service will be held at 1PM Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, with private family interment in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cameron, WI. Visitation will be held from 10AM-1PM Saturday, March 26 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals. A celebration of his life will be held from 2-6PM Saturday, March 26 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Rice Lake.

The family would like to thank Marshfield Medical Center Rice Lake Hospice Team and the Marshfield Oncology Department.
