In Memory of William H. Turner

August 18, 1940 - February 25, 2023

William H. Turner, age 82, of Hayward, WI passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

William Hargreaves Turner was born August 18, 1940, in Chicago, IL. The son of Robert and Rosalie (Finch) Turner, he was raised in Chicago where he graduated from Calumet High School. He briefly served in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged to the US Army Reserves. Bill attended the University of Illinois where he studied Architecture.

On October 27, 1962, Bill was joined in marriage to the love of his life, Pamela Anne Marks, in Chicago.

He apprenticed as an architect with E.O. Burton and became a licensed architect. In 1967 he took a job with American Medical Building Guild in Madison, WI, where he worked for five years. He decided, with some friends, to move to northern Wisconsin and start a company called The Builders. While serving on the committee to oversee the new high school in Hayward, Bill became affiliated with The Stubenrauch Architects. Bill operated the Hayward office for Stubenrauch until his retirement in 2000. After retiring, Bill opened his own architectural business, William Turner Consulting. He became a board member of Nelson Lumber and also helped in their design department. Bill continued his architectural work until his passing.

Throughout their 60+ years of marriage, Bill and Pam enjoyed taking cruises, traveling to Disney World, and visiting various other tropical locations. Bill and Pam spent seven summers managing a fly-in fishing lodge in Ontario where they would host fishing and hunting parties. The camp also became a favorite destination for them and their family. Bill often talked of his deep love and affection for Pam and how lucky he was to have found her. Bill’s family and four children stand as a testimony to his strong faith and character.

Bill enjoyed his work, where he designed many of the prominent buildings in the Hayward area. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, wild turkey hunting, and playing cards and games with his family. He was a man of very strong Christian faith and was active with New Hope Assembly of God, The River Church, and The Well Community Church. Bill enjoyed leading Bible studies, and he will be remembered for his ability to teach and his desire to help others. He led his life as an example for his children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pamela; four children, William Turner Jr. of Bloomington, MN, Brian (Faith) Turner of Moriarty, NM, Christopher (Deborah) Turner of Eau Claire, WI, Deborah (Erik) Peterson of Hanna City, IL; twelve grandchildren; two great grandsons; sister, Roberta Meyers of Summerfield, FL; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bruce Turner.

A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, March 4th, 2023 at Hayward Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Poole officiating. A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
