In Memory of William A. Schmidt
William Adolf Gustav Schmidt passed away on November 16, 2023, at Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Wisconsin. He was 93 years old.
William ""Bill" was born on January 4, 1930, the first of seven children born to Oscar and Ella Schmidt of Indian Creek, Wisconsin. He grew up with his brothers and sister on their dairy farm. He attended Maple Valley School and then Frederic High School where he played football. He graduated in 1948. He served in the Army during the Korean War spending time in Germany and France.
He married Marilyn Hefty. They were blessed with seven children who grew up on their farm in Clam Falls. While farming, Bill also worked for Penta Wood Products for more than 35 years.
He coached 4H softball for many years, bringing home many championships.
Bill loved his family, baseball, softball, deer hunting season, guns, and beer. Over the course of his life, he only missed one deer hunting season ever and that was while he was in the service. He loved when family and friends would gather and share their deer hunting stories and he had a few good stories himself.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Ella Schmidt; his father-in-law and mother in-law, Martell and Maxine Hefty; his wife, Marilyn Schmidt; his sons, John Schmidt and Carl Schmidt; his brothers, Herman Schmidt and Adolf Schmidt; his brothers-in-law, Clifford Amundson, James "Curt'' Hefty and Steve Hefty; his sisters -in-law Arleen Schmidt, Rita Schmidt and Gwen Hefty; and his nephew David Schmidt.
Bill is survived by his children, Alice Schmidt, Donald (Laurie) Schmidt, Bruce Schmidt, Keith Schmidt, Warren (Jane) Schmidt; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings Luella Amundson, Oscar (Beverly) Schmidt, Louie Schmidt, and Henry (Gloria) Schmidt; his brothers-in law David "Gus" (Jan) Heft and sister-in-law Sharai Hefty, many nephews and nieces, great nephews and great-nieces, cousins and many, many dear friends.
There will be funeral service on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Clam Falls Lutheran church with a luncheon following the service at the church and then a Celebration of Life at the Indian Creek Hall from 4 to 7 p.m.
Honorary Pallbearers: Lorin Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, Ryan Schmidt, Linn Root IV, Joshua Schmidt, Bradley Schmidt, Dalton Schmidt, and Hunter Schmidt.
