In Memory of Walter Strasser Jr.
Walter "Bud" Michael Strasser Jr., age 77, of Turtle Lake passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Golden Age Manor of Amery.
He was born September 11, 1946 in Cumberland, WI to Walter Sr. and Frances “Betty” Strasser.
He was married in Range, WI on March 11, 1967 to Jill Stevens.
Bud attended UW River Falls and received his Bachelors in Elementary Education. He later went on to receive his Masters in science and teaching from UW River Falls.
Many memories were made over the 30 years of teaching 6th grade at Turtle Lake. From the Canadian fishing trips with “the guys” to taking his 6th graders to Duluth for an overnight stay. He took great pride each fall in reviewing achievement tests for his prior class – it was his gauge to see if his teaching methods were hitting home.
Bud (“Uncle Spud” to his family) enjoyed gardening; growing enough vegetables that it was joked he was trying to feed the entire county. When there was spare time, Bud and Jill enjoyed their dancing to the White Sidewalls and the Roek’n Hollywoods. They were pretty close to being considered “groupies” for each of the bands.
Bud’s greatest pride was his granddaughter Hope. Many an hour did they spend in the garden, in a fishing boat, or talking about the Packers. The art of gardening is not lost with her.
Bud, “Babe”, Dad, Gramps - you will be dearly missed each and everyday. Know that your battles is over and you are with God and family gives those of us remaining here on earth great peace.
He is survived by his dear wife, of 56 years, Jill; daughter, Faith; son-in-law, Troy; granddaughter, Hope; and siblings, Paul Strasser and Tim Strasser.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, and one sibling, Diann Stumo.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 24 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cumberland with Pastor John Miels officiating. Visitation two hours prior at church. Pallbearers are Tim Strasser, Peter Stumo-Langer, Troy Hollasch, Faith Hollasch, Hope Hollasch, and Jill Strasser. Private Interment Mt. Hope.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Skinner Funeral Home of Turtle Lake is serving the family.
