In Memory of Walter E. Krause
Walter “Bud” Krause, age 89, of Prairie Farm, WI passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Colfax Senior Living.
He was born on January 3, 1935 in the midst of a snowstorm in rural Prairie Farm. The doctor had to use skis to get there, as the farmhouse was snowed in. His late parents, Mathilda (Tillie) and Walter A. Krause had him baptized into the Wisconsin Evangelical Church. Bud attended Prairie Farm Elementary and High School. A highlight was Homecoming, where he reigned with his queen, Elsie Nordby. After Elsie got her teaching degree, they were married at West Akers Lutheran Church on May 26, 1956. They have lived at the same rural address for their whole married life. Bud was a successful dairy farmer, along with his wife’s and children’s help. In the early 80’s, he sold the dairy herd and parts of the farmland. He did carpentry and had his own woodworking shop where he crafted many beautiful pieces of furniture and woodworking projects for family and friends. In their later years Bud and Elsie began taking many wonderful trips with friends. Bud loved his dogs and his last dog, Darcie, was with him until nearly the end.
Bud is survived by his wife: Elsie, daughters: Melody (Jim) Hanson and Bonnie (Dave) Krause-Wichman, sister: Ruby Hinzman, grandchildren: Hannah Bennett and Hans Marske and 2 great grandchildren: Brylie and Braelynn Bennett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law: Hans and Bertina Nordby, sister: Opal Harstad and son: Joel Krause.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Prairie Farm with Rev. Roger Quandt officiating. A luncheon will be served and interment will immediately follow the lunch at West Akers Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of New Haven, rural Prairie Farm. Visitation will be held for the hour prior to services at the church.
Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
