In Memory of Virgil E. Jacobsen

June 6, 1931 - October 21, 2022

Virgil Emanuel Jacobsen, age 91, of Dallas, WI went home to be with his Lord & Savior on Friday, October 21st, 2022 at Pioneer Health & Rehabilitation in Prairie Farm.

He was born June 6th, 1931 to Rev. Emanuel C. & Ruth F. (Ingham) Jacobsen at Lake City, MN.

On September 8th, 1951 he was married to Mayfred E. Godbout at the home of the bride’s parents, Alfred & Ethyl Godbout of Sauk Rapids, MN.

Virgil served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954 & was stationed in Germany. After his discharge, Virgil returned home & began raising a family. He was a Jack-of-all-trades & one of the hardest workers you would ever meet. One of his first jobs was for Margary’s Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked at a Foundry, Dairyland Power as part of a brushing crew, Huset’s Milk Haulers & Barron Area School District as a school bus driver, maintenance & a custodian. These were just a few of his many jobs. When he came home, his day was not over. Virgil had 7 children & in the spring he plowed & planted a huge garden, which all of the family were expected to help with the weeding & harvesting the fruits of their labor. It was the beginning of teaching his children a good work ethic. Virgil was not a man to sit around, unless he was heading up town to have a few beers, Leinenkugel’s being his beer of choice. After gardening season ended, Virgil & his sons would begin to cut wood for winter. Virgil & May always made sure the children had what they needed. There was always food on the table & you ate what was served whether you liked it or not. Virgil would say “you know there are starving people in the world”. His daughter Sheryl suggested he send it to them, which did not go over very well. Virgil liked to hunt, fish & do woodworking in his spare time. He made book cases, shelves & a beautiful mahogany desk & cabinet. He was the greatest Dad in the world, stern but loving.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Mayfred on January 14th, 2013, son: Larry P. Jacobsen, son-in-law: Gregory A. Byrnes, great grandson: Nicholas Schmidt, brothers: David, Dewayne, Jerald & Paul Jacobsen, sister-in-law: Cathy Jacobsen, his father & mother-in-law, brothers & sisters-in-law: James & LeDonna Joy (Godbout) Halverson, Paul & Maryellen (Godbout) Culbertson & David & Virginia (Huset) Godbout, nephews: Richard & Mark Jacobsen & a grandnephew: Joshua Culbertson. (Denise) Jacobsen, 34 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law: Mary J. Jacobsen, as well as many other relatives & friends.
