Toby Jeff Carley passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, in downtown Grantsburg, Wisconsin at the age of 49, 11 months and 11 days.

Toby was born on January 28, 1974, in St. Croix Falls to Jeff and Pat Carley.

Toby loved his family most, especially his girls. He was hard working, always friendly and smiling, and seemed to know everyone. When he would come to visit his parents, it was always, “Hi, mom. How are ya?” He graduated from Frederic High School and received his bachelor’s degree from UW River Falls and his master’s degree from UW LaCrosse. Toby did not need a lot of material things to be happy. If you needed help or an extra hand, he would say, “I’m coming, and I will be there”, and just really wanted to please and help everyone. During summers in high school and college and while teaching, he loved working for Anderson Construction where he learned many construction skills. He enjoyed his 23 years working in the Luck School District teaching and coaching football and wrestling and being the Athletic Director, and after that working at Burnett Dairy and ABC Lumber in Grantsburg, Northwoods Lumber in Webster, and most recently, working on his own in the construction field doing whatever needed to be done. In the past, Toby was also a volunteer for the Frederic and Grantsburg fire departments and was very proud of both of those organizations. Toby loved anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, along with camping and canoeing.

He is survived by his children, Molly and Maggie, and their mother Tammy, and his sibling Joy Hughes and her husband, Philip, and boys Noah, Mason, and Jack, his parents Jeff and Pat Carley, plus many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Toby was preceded in death by his grand parents Dr. Richard and Arlene Carley and Reverend and Mrs. Jerry Thompson, and his cousin, Danielle Carley.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Dominic’s Catholic church in Frederic at 11:00 with a visitation from 9:00-11:00.

Pallbearers: Brian Stevens, Ray Draxler, Robb Jensen, Mario Battisti, Joe Bartylla, and Billy Struck.
