In Memory of Thomas W. Mansfield


December 31, 1939 - September 14, 2023

Thomas Wallace Mansfield, age 83, of Hayward, WI, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

He was born on December 31, 1939 in Oak Park, IL, the son of Thomas Wilson and Evelyn Louise (Potthoff) Mansfield. He was united in marriage to Susan E. Williamson on August 8, 1964 in Riverton, IL.

Tom received his bachelor's degree in Zoology from the University of Illinois and continued his education in dentistry at the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago where he received his D.D.S. in 1965. He enjoyed a 30-year career in Dentistry with the United States Navy, stationed in many locations in the United States and in Okinawa, Japan. Tom retired as the Assistant Chief of Staff Navy Region Northeast. He was an avid sports fan and played baseball for the Marine All Star team while in Okinawa. He obtained his private pilot license and loved recreational flying while he was stationed in Monterey, CA. He and Susie retired to their home on Windigo Lake where they enjoyed the Northwoods and all the wildlife around them. Tom was very active in the community, serving on the board of directors for Fishing Has No Boundaries, was Library Board President for five years, and was a member of the Lions Club for 24 years serving as president for two terms and was a recipient of a Birch Sterm and two Melvin Jones awards. He was also a stamp collector and dealer and loved to spend time fishing.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Mansfield of Hayward; his nephew, Donn (Pam) Mansfield; his niece, Ellen (Al) Stevenson; and his great-nephews, Scott, Andrew and Joshua.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Don Mansfield, and his sister-in-law, Martha Mansfield.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the Hayward Funeral Home, 15571 W. County Highway B in Hayward, where there will be a time of sharing and military honors at 2:30 P.M. Interment will be private.
