In Memory of Thomas M. Dowd

September 7, 1941 - September 29, 2023

Thomas Michael Dowd passed away September 29, 2023 having been surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born September 7, 1941 to Arthur and Rose Dowd. He was the oldest of 6 children. He was a graduate of Milltown High School (Unity School District) and then enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany.

Tom was married to Sharon (Hanson) and together they had 2 children: Polly and Courtney. He was later divorced and married Rita Creuzer on July 29, 2017.

Tom was a very hard worker and held many jobs throughout his career. He served on the Milltown Township Board, worked for Polk County Road Works, Twin City Arsenal, Midwest Breeders, Eichten’s Buffalo Farm, and was probably most proud of having his own business, Dowd Electric. He also served on the Luck Lutheran Church Council and was a member and past-commander of the Luck American Legion Post 255.

Tom loved horses, watching Gunsmoke, driving tractors and field work, and spending time with his family and friends; who enjoyed his quick wit and one-liners. He was always there to help others in need.

He is survived by his wife Rita Creuzer; his children Polly (Carl) Rudi and Courtney (Dana) Dowd; stepson Keith Gillette (Beth Black); four grandchildren Alexis (Josh Lingen) Rudi and Jarrod (Sarah Kickert) Rudi, Jackson Dowd and Jagger Dowd; his siblings Michael (Patricia) Dowd, Kathleen (Larry) Hanson, Sharon (Larry Ellingworth) McQuillan, and Patti (Steve) Dahl; brother-in-law Jerry Breault; Rita’s family; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gloria Breault.

Tom’s family would like to thank Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing at St Croix Falls and St. Croix Hospice (especially Luanne and Travis) for giving him “life” these past months.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Tom will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church - Balsam Lake where he was a member. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will be a luncheon provided at the church immediately following the Mass and burial to follow.
