On December 28, 2023, Susan Coreen Paulson passed away peacefully with family by her side. She was 70 years old.

Sue was born on August 21, 1953 to her parents, Howard and Gladys Marlett. The sixth child of seven, Susie grew up in Clayton, WI on a dairy farm. She was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Clayton, WI. Sue attended school in Clayton School District where she was Prom Queen and the Crisco Award recipient for excellence in Home Economics. Sue graduated from Clayton High School in 1971 and attended Beautician School in Minnesota.

Sue was married to Rickey Paulson on March 4, 1978. Together they created a beautiful life blessed with four children, a flourishing dairy farm, and a house that was truly made into a home. Sue was known for saying, “You have to make your house a home” and she was exceptional at it. She welcomed kids’ friends, farm hands, and extended family to the supper table. Her genuine listening ear, exceptional generosity, and fantastic cooking gave her kitchen table the loving nickname “Grand Central Station.” Everyone was welcome and she had a way of fixing everything. No matter what might be wrong, Sue’s listening, validation, and excellent wisdom seemed to fix it.

Sue had a variety of talents in her work. From being a beautician, to working at the local grocery store, being the farm bookkeeper to caring for all the baby calves, Sue was a hard worker with great attention to detail. Her most important work, however, was twofold: being a homemaker and mother to 4 children: Michael, Janelle, Kristie, and Bethany. Her home was filled with good food, laughter, and unconditional love. In regards to raising children she lived by one motto, “If I only love them enough.” And love them, she did. There was no better mother… ever.

Traditions were a key piece of what made Sue so special. No matter the holiday, she was sure to have a set of consistent traditions that not only her kids and husband enjoyed but also neighbors, friends, and extended family who were lucky enough to partake in her carefully thought-out plans. She could make any day an extraordinary day!

Sue had numerous hobbies she enjoyed. She loved flowers and birds, gardening and time with family. She adored her grandchildren and absolutely loved planning a party or special event, sure to be overflowing with all made-from-scratch meals and desserts. Extended family events and planning family reunions/birthdays/weddings brought her so much joy. In her final days, her greatest joy came from hearing the “giggles” of family reminiscing and laughing together. Nothing brought her a bigger smile. Family was everything.

Volunteering – Sue was no stranger to volunteering whether it be treasurer for the Swedish cemetery, church board or teaching Sunday School- she was always willing to lend a hand. This extended further into the community as her children grew, offering their home with an open door to all kids as a safe and fun place to be before or after each and every basketball game, football game, study night, or even Senior Baccalaureate celebration!

Sue was active in their local church, Faith Lutheran in Clayton. She was strong in her faith, relished connecting with others and time with Pastor Margaret.

Sue is preceeded in death by her parents, Howard and Gladys Marlett; her siblings Les Marlett, James Marlett, Jane Anton, Larry Marlett, and David Marlett; sister-in-law, Tammy Paulson.

She is survived by her husband, Rickey Paulson; children, Michael (Kim) Paulson, Janelle (Joe) Baarsch, Kristie (Chris) Taffe, and Bethany (Corey) Gansen; grandchildren, Dominic and Lilly Paulson, Annabelle and Tristian Baarsch, MacKenzie and Carter Taffe, and Jupiter Gansen; sister, Lorna (Joe) Prusak; and many, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Sue’s family invites you to join them in a time of celebration of her beautifully lived life and an opportunity to mourn the loss of such an important and irreplaceable person in so many lives. A visitation will take place on Friday, January 5th, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home and an hour before the service at church on Saturday. The funeral will take place on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at 11:00 am at the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake, WI.
