In Memory of Sandra Turk


November 5, 1935 - May 1, 2020

Sandra "Sandy" Lee Turk, 84, passed away on May 1, 2020 peacefully at home in Frederic, WI. 

Sandy was born in Frederic, WI on November 5, 1935 to Darwin and Judy Dversdall. 

Growing up, Sandy was involved in all things musical – band, choir, piano, vocalist, piano accompanying for various groups throughout the years. Sandy graduated as Salutatorian from Frederic High School in 1953. She always enjoyed every class reunion and getting together with classmates, and never missed a class reunion in 66 years. She attended business college in Minneapolis, MN and spent many years working in various business offices throughout her life. 

Sandy enjoyed a lifelong affiliation with Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic, WI. She was baptized, confirmed - and married to Bill Turk in the church in 1955. Sandy and Bill had two children, Timothy and Tamara, who were both baptized at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. 

Sandy and Bill lived in 11 communities in 5 states during their 64 years together. They enjoyed family travel – camping in every state east of the Mississippi. Having moved many times while their children were young, Sandy was always very involved in their lives, school activities, and education. She was a Den mother for Cub Scouts in Bloomington, IN. She loved gardening and was proud of her flowers every year. She enjoyed crafting and basket making for many years. Sandy was very involved in Civic Newcomers Group in Bloomington, IN and Batavia, IL, always ensuring people felt welcome in their new community. 

Sandy was an active member of American Business Women’s Association, served as President for the organization, and was selected as Woman of the Year two times. 

Sandy is survived by her husband, Bill Turk; son, Tim Turk (Claudette Turk); daughter, Tamara Turk Hopwood; grandchildren, Andrew Turk, Danielle Turk Bieber (Mike Bieber), Matthew Hopwood, Nicholas Hopwood; and one great-grandchild, William Bieber; brother, Dean Dversdall; sister, Debi Dversdall Erickson (Richard Erickson); and many nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 507 Wisconsin Ave. N., Frederic, WI 54837 or Geneva United Methodist Church, 211 Hamilton St., Geneva, IL 60134.
