In Memory of Ronald Smith
Ron E. Smith passed away at home after a hard fought battle with cancer on August 26, 2021 with his wife, Laurie by his side.
Ron was born in Wabasha, MN, blessed to Jim and Joyce Smith. He lived in Pepin, WI until age 9 when the family moved to Centuria. After graduation Ron joined the Army and served 2 years, as well as many years in the reserves. After his active duty in the Army, he attended Dunwoody Institute and earned a degree in Machine Tooling. He spent the next 30 years as a machinist.
In 1985 he married Tammy Sidick and to this union 4 boys were born, Brian Smith, Sean Smith, Drew Smith and Greg Smith.
In 2008 Ron ran into Laurie, whom he’d known in high school, at a wedding and she became the love of his life.
In 2015 Ron changed careers and became a salesman of machining tools. He enjoyed that career very much, and became a top salesman for the company very quickly. Ron and Laurie were married in 2018 in the backyard of their home, surrounded by friends and family.
Ron enjoyed many hobbies and activities: hunting, fishing, yard games, singing karaoke, and was always up for anything fun with friends and family. By far his favorite was time spent on the Harley; he and Laurie spent countless hours going nowhere in particular. He was always so happy when spending time with the kids and grandkids, and loved them all intensely.
Ron is preceded in death by his father, Jim Smith and sister, Sherrie Smith-Toland.
He will be remembered by his wife, Laurie; mom, Joyce Smith; brother, Steve Smith (Jill); sons, Brian, Sean (Ashley), Drew, and Greg; stepsons, Matt Johnson (Rheanna), Chris Johnson (Kiersten), and Daniel Johnson; grandchildren, Brielle Smith, Zachary, Adalynn, and Natalie Johnson, and Carson and Liam Johnson.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at Joy Lutheran Church in Centuria on Tuesday, August 31st – visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Angie Kutney officiating. Ron will be laid to rest at St. John’s Cemetery following the service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home
