In Memory of Roger E. Knutson


July 2, 1931 - February 11, 2025

Roger E. Knutson, 93, of Amery passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Golden Age Manor Nursing Home, Amery. He was born in Amery on July 2, 1931 to Henry and Lorinda (Strohbeen) Knutson. He graduated from Amery High School in 1950. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy as a Sonarman and served during the Korean War. He was Honorably discharged in 1954. Roger then went to Seattle, WA and worked at Boeing Airline.

On November 1, 1958 he married Delores McIalwain in Seattle, WA. After their marriage Rog and Dee moved back to Wisconsin where he attended UW River Falls and received his Bachelor degree in Social Science and a minor in Physical Education. He started teaching in 1961 as an elementary teacher in St. Paul, MN. They lived in Cottage Grove, MN and during this time he received his Master of Science in Education from UW River Falls. In 1977 the family moved to Amery, WI and he then received his Educational Specialist Degree from the College of St. Thomas. Through the years in Amery he was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church and he started the Youth Bowling League at Club 53.

He retired from teaching in 1991 but he did not slow down, he continued to work many different jobs including driving the van for the hospital and mowing lawn at the Amery Cemetery. He also served on the Amery City Council for six years. In 2000 Rog and Dee started spending their winters in Ocala, FL. They enjoyed traveling and watching their grandchildren grow and play sports.

Roger enjoyed life! He was a great storyteller, an avid sports fan (Packers, Badgers, and Brewers), and a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His hobbies included golfing, bowling, watching sports, reading, and being around people. He was a very social person!

Roger is survived by his son Steven Knutson, daughter Lori (Paul) Denny: 5 grandchildren, David Knutson, Roger (Vanessa) Knutson, Mary (James) Carter, Morgan (Bryson) Clemenson, and John Denny; 4 great grandchildren, Cleo and Maeve Clemenson, James Carter IV and Aiden David Carter; sister in law Bonnie Knutson; many nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, and cousins.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Golden Age Manor for his care.

Roger’s, along with his wife Delores, will have a joint visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. A joint visitation will also take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:00 am and a service at 11:00 followed by a lunch.

The family will have a private burial service at a later date.
