Richard Raye Hogue, age 83, of Clam Lake, WI, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Richard was born September 11, 1941, in Joliet, IL, the son of C. Raye Hogue and Harriette “Anne” Gougar Hogue.

Richard was a proud Union Carpenter, (Will County Local #174) for more than fifty-five years. In his time as a carpenter, he built everything from industrial/commercial to home remodels. His customers were always satisfied because he never quit until they were.

He often reminisced about time spent in his youth working on his grandparents’, Ruby and Harlow Gougar, farm in New Lenox, IL.

Richard was a champion trap shooter, often scoring in the high 190’s/200 at 16 yards.

Having fond memories of times spent on childhood vacations fishing with his dad in the Round Lake area, it was Richard’s dream to end up living in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Once he moved here, he didn’t care to travel anywhere else because he “was living his vacation.”

Anytime he was on a watery shore he would be found dapping rocks, especially on Lake Superior.
Richard loved and cared for all of God’s Creation. He considered himself a steward of the woods in which his family lived. He spent countless hours tramping through the forest he called home.

He was particularly proud of his children’s accomplishments and delighted in the happiness in their lives.
Richard will be remembered by all whom he met for his loving generosity and deep compassion; the way he lived a life full of gratitude for all he had to share; his ceaseless prayer for the Church and for the world; and for his ability to start up a conversation with anyone he met, just about anywhere. He will be fondly remembered by his friends and neighbors for his willingness to help however he could, and for his garden-fresh organic produce, especially his green beans!

He is survived by his wife Marlene; children Rhica Hogue, Richard (Maura) Hogue, Jr., and Melissa (Steve) Breen; grandchildren, Faye, Tessa, John, Maria, Margaret and Joseph.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Raye Hogue, and mother Anne Wisneski.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Hayward. The Rev. Dr. Nozipho Dlodlo will officiate, with The Rev. Dave Bauer as Homilist and Celebrant at the Eucharist. Inurnment will be in Manhattan Center Cemetery (Manhattan, IL) at a later date. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
