In Memory of Phyllis A. Martinson


November 1, 1925 - August 24, 2024

Phyllis A. Martinson passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the age of 98.

She arrived on November 1, (Sunday all Saints Day) 1925, the only daughter of Louis and Ellen (Johnson) Siltberg. Her parents were renting the church home belonging to the El Salem Baptist Church in Garfield Township. This home still stands adjacent to the church on Co. Hwy F.

She attended grade school at Oak Grove and Sucker Lake and later graduated from Amery High School with the class of 1944. Her employment years were mainly retail sales and customer service, but the last 30 years were as a case aide, program supervisor and resource/benefits specialists with two government agencies.

She married Virgil Martinson on September 8, 1946, soon after his return from military service in WWII. They made their home in Amery and maintained an open door policy to all relatives and friends.

Their only son, Lynn (The love of their life) who was a Vietnam Veteran, passed away on October 7, 2003 at the age of 56. Their marriage breakup in 1978 was a deep heartbreak, not only to themselves, but their son and the entire family.

Phyllis was a longtime member of the Amery Area Gardening Club, VFW Auxiliary, Amery Senior Center, the Kennedy EOC, Polk County Mental Health, and associates member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Her lifetime passion was flower gardening, camping, snowmobiles, cars, tractors and pet family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ellen; her son, Lynn; husband, Virgil; and both sets of grandparents (Johnsons and Siltbergs).

Survivors are granddaughters, Dawn (Corey) Weinfurtner of Richmond, IL and Jamie (James Dewey) Martinson of Stevens Point, WI; great-grandchildren, Owen and Erynn Weinfurtner; and her cousin, Chuck.

A funeral service will take place at 10:30 am on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Amery, with a visitation/brunch starting at 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Amery Cemetery in Amery, WI.
