Peggy was born August 7, 1949 to Raymond and Eula McVey in Chariton, Iowa. Peggy made Jesus the Lord and Savior of her life at age 8 and desired to live her whole life for Him. After graduating from Chariton High School in 1967, she studied to be an LPN nurse and graduated in 1968 in Ottumwa, IA. She studied Bible and Missions at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. There she met the love of her life, Larry Oftedahl, and they were married on December 18, 1971.

They both graduated with their BA degrees in 1974. One of Peggy’s greatest joys in life was being a mother to her two daughters, Michelle and Jennifer.

Peggy worked as an LPN in Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin mostly in nursing homes. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, canning, sewing, swimming in Lake Superior, singing, playing piano, and a good game of Skip-Bo. She was famous for her delicious pies. Peggy loved making meals for people and being a hostess. She loved cats and had seven “grandcats”. She loved people and took time to have conversations with everyone. She loved and supported missions her whole life. She and Larry went to Brussels, Belgium on a missions trip in 1973, she also traveled to Mexico and Peru to visit her missionary daughter. She was active in church ministry teaching children for years. Peggy babysat several children over the years and many lovingly called her “Grandma Peggy” and indeed she loved each one as if they were her grandchildren.
