In Memory of Palmer E. McCoy


September 19, 1933 - February 20, 2023

Palmer Edward McCoy, 89, passed away on February 20th, 2023 in Hayward, Wisconsin.

He was born September 19th, 1933, to parents Dyke and Helen McCoy.

He attended Hillsboro high school where he was voted most athletic, he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. While in high school he met his wife, Fern Kahler. They married on September 3rd, 1955 in Hillsboro Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in Spring of 1956. While attending university he enlisted in ROTC. After graduation he served four years of active duty in the US Air Force. He then served in the Air National Guard for over 30 years and retired as a full Colonel. He worked for the University of Wisconsin Extension program for 30 years and at retirement he was the District Director and a full professor.

In retirement Palmer spent his summers on Round Lake in Hayward and winters in Englewood Florida. He and Fern enjoyed golfing and he was very proud of the fact that he got a hole in one on four separate occasions. He was active in the Lutheran church in both Florida and Hayward. He served as President of First Lutheran Church of Hayward for several years. An avid outdoorsman he took satisfaction in hunting in the fall and winter. He was always quick with a joke and approached life with a simplistic and straightforward outlook.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dyke and Helen McCoy, and his sisters Rosemary Holak and Sandra Kurtz.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Fern, of 67 years and his children Kathy McCoy, (Peter Sievert) and Allen McCoy (Maureen); grandchildren Paul and David Sievert, Samantha (Joseph), Brady, and Catrina McCoy.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at First Lutheran Church, 10680 Main Street in Hayward, where visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.

Interment will be held privately.
