Nancy Atkinson, age 81, a resident of Spooner, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Nancy was born on June 8, 1942, in Spooner to parents Lyle and Helen (Akey) Thompson. She grew up in Spooner and attended the Spooner Schools. On November 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Atkinson in Pine City, Minnesota. After their marriage, they continued to live in Spooner for their first year, then they moved to Chicago for about 6 years, then to St. Paul for another 6 years, before moving back to Spooner in 1972. Nancy worked at the Topper Café for a time before retiring to the life of a being a grandmother to help take care of grandchildren. Nancy was a huge fan of Elvis, going to garage sales and the Casino, but most of all the loved to just spend time with her family.

Nancy is survived by her daughters: Vicki (Sam) West of Sarona, Lori Klein of Ramsey, MN, Cheryl Atkinson of Spooner, Jennifer (Matt) Reese of Spooner, 9 grandchildren: Robert, Jocelyne, Shawn, Peter, Mary, Jessica, Tiffani, Nikki, Richie, and 18 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Atkinson, her parents, granddaughter Chelsea, great granddaughter Tenley, brother Richard, sister Sandy, and an infant brother and sister.

Memorial services for Nancy Atkinson will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 11am, at the Spooner Funeral Home with a time of gathering for friends and family from 10-11am at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will be held at a later time at the Lakeview Cemetery near Hertel, Wisconsin.
