In Memory of Mildred M. Brewer


March 6, 1923 - July 22, 2024

Mildred Marie Brewer, age 101, passed away on July 22, 2024 at Frederic Nursing & Rehab Community.

Millie was born to Henry & Hilda Skoog on March 6, 1923, in Vinton, Iowa. She grew up on the farm, enduring the loss of her brother Gordan, her mother and her home all before the age of 10. She graduated from high school in 1941 and started working at the phone company in town.

In 1944 she married her high school sweetheart George in San Diego, California. They welcomed their first child, a son Craig in 1945. In 1948 they made their way back to the Midwest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1950 they welcomed their second child, a daughter Kristie.

Millie had many talents and hobbies which included knitting, crocheting, sewing, interior design, cooking, baking and her favorite bowling.

She worked full time in several places as a secretary/receptionist. In her retirement years you would find her in the department store Dillards, demonstrating the latest kitchen gadget.

Millie and George were very active in Eastern Star which they both enjoyed doing together.

Her sparkling strong spirit, her love of her family, her unwavering strong faith, and her beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Millie is preceded in death by her husband, George of 77 years of marriage; her parents; brothers, Ralph, Gordon, Glen and Eric; sisters, Hazel and Ruth; son-in-law, Louis Hjort.

Millie is survived by her son, Craig (Jew); daughter, Kristie Hjort; her granddaughters, Koreen, Charlotte and Cynthia; great grandsons, Jon, Raymond, Jacob and Samuel Benseman.

The family would especially like to thank Frederic Nursing & Rehab Community for their loving care, and joy in taking care of Millie these past 6 years. Also, the family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for their loving care.

The graveside service for Millie will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg, WI with Pastor John Addison officiating.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
