
In Memory of Melodie J. Clayton
Melodie J. Clayton passed away July 24th, 2025 peacefully at home. She was born on October 4th, 1952 and grew up in Springbrook, Wisconsin with her parents and brother at a home on the Namekagon River. She graduated from Spooner High School in 1971. She had a handful of different jobs before finding her true calling of running a daycare from her home that started in Amery, Wisconsin then continued when she moved to Eau Claire. She took care of many wonderful children throughout those years.
She enjoyed the hobbies of fishing, gardening, and knitting sweaters for the little ones. Many summers were spent in the camper on Lake Holcombe or Lake Pepin with her sitting on the beach fishing in a lawn chair reading a book waiting for the fish to bite. She was a wonderful friend, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and wife to her loving husband Daryl Clayton for 43 wonderful years sharing many adventures on their way through life.
Melodie is survived by her husband, Daryl, daughter, Jess (Tom) Brown, son, Ryan Schlapper, granddaughter Ivy Schlapper, brother, Wayne (Kathy) Morgenthaler and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Anne and Jack Morgenthaler and countless friends and loved ones.
Visitation will be at the Spooner Funeral Home, in Spooner, on Tuesday, August 5th from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. followed by a short service and interment at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m. There will be a celebration of life to be determined at a later date.
