In Memory of Maynard G. Peterson


April 4, 1942 - November 17, 2022

Maynard Gordon Peterson, age 80, a resident of Siren, WI passed away on November 17, 2022 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Maynard was born on April 4, 1942 in Siren, WI to parents Vernon and Gwendolyn (Johnson) Peterson. Maynard was born hard of hearing. He attended a school in Superior for the hard of hearing, to learn sign language. He would stay with a family there during the week. Sometimes he rode the train to Superior, WI by himself. However, he soon realized that if he walked all the way he was able to buy treats with the money he saved. Smart!

Maynard grew up in Siren, WI on the family dairy farm where he gained a lot of work ethic that led him to his career of 35 years as a machinist for Tetra-Pak. He lived in St. Paul, MN. After retirement Maynard moved back to his hometown in Siren, WI. He was a big fan of Tom’s Bar and The Pour House where many people got to know him. He enjoyed listening to live music and dancing.

Maynard was on a tv show in the 70’s that was called “Bowling for Dollars” and won with a 7-10 split. He loved to bowl and played on a league with his friends every Friday night. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting deer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Gwendolyn; brothers, Larry, Brian and John Peterson.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Kevin) Ellis; grandchildren, Enrique, Julio and Laurese Ellis; great granddaughter, Rosalina; sister, Carol (Ron) Potvin; brother, Niles (Marge) Peterson; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 5:30 PM (visitation 4:30 -5:30 PM) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Siren, WI. with pastor Emily Stelling officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at The Pour House.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
