In Memory of Mary Leaf


January 29, 1944 - April 1, 2019

Mary Corinne Leaf Age 75, of Rice Lake, WI died knowing she was truly loved on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Marshfield Medical Center Rice Lake surrounded by her caring and supporting family.

She was born on January 29, 1944 in Denver, Colorado to Dr. Fred and Mary (Wesner) Johnson. Mary graduated from the Superior Central High School in Superior, WI, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and then received a Masters Degree in Education at Viterbo University in LaCrosse, WI. Mary was married to Willard “Butch” Leaf on June 11, 1966 in Superior, WI. She was a Registered Nurse at the Rusk County Hospital in Ladysmith, WI and the Rice Lake Convalescent Center. Mary was a teacher at WITC where she taught CNA classes. She was very involved in the United Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon of the church, member of the PEO, was in several book clubs and enjoyed being in the swim club. Mary volunteered at Daybreak, Rice Lake Area Free Clinic and Hands of Help.

She is survived by her husband, Willard “Butch” Leaf of Rice Lake; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Zach Roux of Maple Grove, MN; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Julie Leaf of Rice Lake & Mark and Laurie Leaf of Rice Lake; 8 grandchildren, Jesse, April and Corinne Leaf, Addison, Stella and Finnley Leaf & Sean and Gemma Roux; a sister, Barbara Sutherland of Hudson, WI; a niece, Jill and a nephew, Rob. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Fred and Mary Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2PM Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the United Presbyterian Church in Rice Lake, Rev. Chris McCurdy officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Friday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the Funeral Service on Saturday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the United Presbyterian Church or a scholarship will be started for students entering the nursing program at WITC.
