Mary Zehm was born at Shell Lake Hospital on September 27th, 1957, to parents George and Barbara Hills.

Mary graduated from Spooner High School in 1975. She was working at Jobservice when she met and married the love of her life, Bob Zehm. They settled down on their farm west of Spooner.

Mary was involved with Girl Scouts, 4-H, along with many committees and on the Church Board while raising her family with Bob.

Mary worked at Brekka’s flower shop for a few years followed by several years in the grocery stores as a produce and deli manager. Mary served for twelve years on the Washburn County Board and was the Treasurer for the Town of Evergreen. She worked at the Spooner Advocate for thirteen years where she wrote the Spooner News and was the Office Manager. After being recruited into the medical field, Mary worked as the Activities Director at Shell Lake Health Care. In January 2023, Mary semi-retired from Activities and changed departments to be an office assistant.

Mary is survived by her husband Bob of forty-three years and five children: Rob (Bonnie) Zehm of Spooner, Larry Zehm of Tennessee, Melissa Blevins of Tennessee, Jeremy (Marcy) Zehm of Prescott, Tiffany (Phillip) Parker of Trego, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 brother Clyde (Sandy) Hills of Michigan, 2 sisters Dorothy Packer of Spooner and Debbie (Wayne) Slaughter of Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Dennis Boyd, sister Kathy and 2 nephews.

A gathering of Mary’s family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Spooner Funeral Home from 4-7pm. A private interment will take place at a later date.
