In Memory of Mark Cangemi

February 25, 1950 - November 5, 2020

Mark Cangemi believed that a person, however privileged or impoverished, is obligated to dig deep and make a contribution. As a father, husband, friend and civil servant he tried, in the most humble way, to embody that belief in his life. He was brave and wise and only asked of others what he was willing to attempt himself.

His contributions included raising three children and showing them a world where old dogs could be saved, justice had a face, ancient tractors could be furbished, and grain sheds turned into a tiny oasis for respite.  His interests were many and he would immerse himself in a project to the fullest, reading and researching and working with people who invariably became his friend during the process, whether it was to develop new skills in forgery, to apply learned ones in a project to rebuild a 66 corvette, or flying cross country with a friend for the sheer fun and joy of the adventure.  He was a complex person, exacting in his personal expectations of himself and others.  He was willing to get into the arena and do his best and did so with grace and heroism as a public servant, father and husband. When he stumbled he stood up and tried again.

His parents were Peter J. Cangemi and Mary L. Machesky.  His sister Ann L Cangemi preceded him in death, and his brother Michael H. Cangemi survives him.

His children include Alex J. Bartlett, married to Alissa, and grandsons Evan, Myles and Wyatt; Margo M. Cangemi and fiancé Kyle Mindermann; and Alan Medina-Gonzalez. He is survived by his wife Patricia.

Mark was beloved, admired, and respected by his family and friends, and his passing after bravely fighting cancer is mourned.  The loss is great.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Pheasants Forever.
