Marie Frances Halda (Stancyk), 69, lovingly known by those closest to her as “Shooter”, of Danbury, WI, passed away on October 10, 2023 at home with her husband of 49 years by her side. She was born on September 20, 1954, in Karlstad, MN, to the late John and Florence Stancyk. Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Marie had a radiant smile that could light up a room, and her contagious laughter brought joy to those around her. She had a passion for art, and her creative talent was evident in the beautiful artwork showcased throughout her home. Marie's decorating skills, specifically her Christmas trees, were truly remarkable and could have easily been featured in a catalog. She had a talent for cooking and was known for her delicious meals, which earned her the title of “gourmet chef” among her loved ones. The evenings would often find her engrossed in reading cookbooks, constantly seeking new culinary inspiration.

Marie was a selfless and kind-hearted individual, always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her family, particularly her grandchildren, held a special place in her heart. She cherished spending time with them, whether it was playing, curling up with a book, baking her famous cookies, attending their many activities, or organizing massive treasure hunts. Marie also enjoyed the simple life at the family cabin, where she immersed herself in the outdoors, puzzles, crosswords, watching the birds, and enjoying laughter around the campfire with visitors.

Marie grew up on a family farm in Strandquist, MN. As a 6th grader, her family moved to Grand Forks, ND where she later graduated from Grand Forks Central. Marie attended college and graduated from Mayville State College in Mayville, ND. Her college years introduced her to a handsome basketball player by the name of John Halda. On June 15, 1974, Marie married John at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND. After marrying John, Marie began her career at Mayville State College in the Admissions Office. John was part of a family plumbing business in Mayville. Marie quickly developed a talent for offering plumbing advice over the phone. In 1988, the family relocated to Rochester, MN, where she worked for Express Services until 1998. At that point, she decided to retire and embrace the serenity of life at the cabin on Roy Lake in northern Minnesota, spending nearly every summer weekend there. In 2020, Marie and John fulfilled their dream of moving to their forever home in NW Wisconsin.

Marie is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband, John, and their three sons: Michael (Nikki) of Lakeville, MN, Ryan (Katie) of Rochester, MN, and Aaron (Kristin) of Minnetrista, MN. She was a proud grandmother to Reece, Rylee, Gavin, Hudson, Cole, Henley, and Merik. Marie also leaves behind her siblings Joann Kittilson, Theresa (Don) Goering, Raymond (Nancy) Stancyk, John Stancyk, and Carol (Jon) Galde.

A memorial service to celebrate Marie's life will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM (visitation from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster, WI with Deacon Stan Marczak officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Marie's memory to Minnesota Connect Aphasia Now, a cause close to her heart.

Marie's warm spirit, love, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, creativity, and a deep devotion to her family. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
