In Memory of Margaret M. Shaver


June 9, 1959 - August 30, 2024

Margaret Mary (Thompson) Shaver, age 65, of Spooner, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 30, 2024. Mary was a light in everyone’s life, known for her genuine love for others, open heart, and warm home. She had a heart of gold and was always ready to welcome anyone who needed a place to stay or a bite to eat. Mary’s legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Born on June 9, 1959, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, to Hiram and Cecilia “Tina” (Johnson) Thompson, Mary was the youngest of seven siblings. She grew up in a loving family in Minong, where she graduated from Minong High School in 1978. Mary was always praised for her stunning looks, blushing cheeks, quiet spirit, and witty humor.

Following high school, Mary dedicated her life to helping others, becoming a certified nursing assistant and working tirelessly to care for those in need over the next 47 years.

On July 2, 1983, she married Vernon Shaver Jr. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong, WI. The couple soon moved to Spooner after the birth of their first child. Together, they raised three wonderful children. Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family; she treasured every moment spent with loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Shaver Jr.; her three children – Cecilia “Tina” (Dustin) Norton of Spooner, WI, Vernon III “Shane” (Lexie) Shaver of Eau Claire, WI, and Jordan Shaver of Spooner, WI; her grandchildren – Benjamin Crotteau, Ashlynn Shatley, Malachi Norton, Gabrielle Norton, Savannah Norton, Rynlee Shaver, and Caleb Norton; great-grandchild, Asher Hacken; and six beloved brothers – Thomas (Jean) Johnson of Rockford, IL; Robert Werner of Eau Claire, WI; William (Terri) Thompson of Edgerton, WI; Gerald (Dianne) Thompson of Spooner, WI; Daniel (Tracy) Thompson of Sarona, WI; and Pat (Tory) Thompson of Bellingham, WA. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Mary was joyfully welcomed in heaven by her parents Hiram and Cecilia Thompson and Mother and Father-in-law, Vernon and Merle Shaver.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Cornerstone Church in Spooner, WI, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with reflections from 2:00 to 3:00 PM and a celebration of life to follow at Lipsie Pines Restaurant and Bar.
