In Memory of Lyle R. Stelton
Lyle R. Stelton, age 79 of St. Croix Falls, WI, passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by family on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
Lyle was born on October 16, 1942 to Ralph and Madeline (Rohrbeck) Stelton in Watkins, MN.
Lyle graduated from St. Croix Falls High School in 1961. He was married to Diane (Sjosten) Stelton on April 19, 1969. They raised their family in Minneapolis, MN until they moved to St. Croix Falls in 1985.
Lyle loved history. The documentarian in him started early in his army days as he filmed and took photographs of the places he visited on his days away from manning the radars from his base in Germany. He especially loved his family’s history. He made sure to record all family events. With every family gathering, it was guaranteed that the tripod would be set up and ready to film with Lyle standing behind it.
His grandchildren also played an important role in Lyle’s history. He showed much love to all 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and had a special relationship with each of them. They each had their own name for him including Grandpa, Grandpa Honeydew, Grandpa S, and Papa Lyle. Lyle passed on many gifts to his grandchildren, but the greatest gift may have been his love of sweets. No grandchild was too young to have ice cream for breakfast or chocolate for dinner.
Lyle had many hobbies over the years. His love of trees was a lifelong enjoyment. One of the first things he did upon coming home from work was checking on the trees that were newly planted or transplanted in the yard. He also loved listening to music and had an extensive record collection that was well used. Friday nights meant hanging out and playing music quite loudly. If dad loved a song, it would be common to hear it over and over and over again. Later in life, woodworking became one of his favorite hobbies. He made wonderful stools, and it is no exaggeration to say that every family member has at least 10 each! Lyle was also a huge fan of the casino and enjoyed going to “Turtle” to play the slots. He had many theories about when the machines would “hit” the best.
Lyle was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Stelton, and mother, Madeline (Rohrbeck) Stelton; wife, Diane Stelton; son, Dennis Stelton; sisters, Mary Geldert and Bonnie Anderson.
Lyle is survived by his children, Troy (Beth) Stelton, Shannon (Chad) Lindgren, and Shawn (Jenni) Stelton, Mike (Tammy) Beireis, and daughter in-law, Carrie Stelton; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) McIntosh, Christopher Stelton, Anthony Stelton, Ariana Beireis, Allison Beireis, Madelyn Stelton, Mike Beireis, Hunter Stelton, McCoy Lindgren, Peyton Lindgren, and Oliver Ebert; great-grandchildren, Paige and Axel McIntosh; sisters, Elaine Painter and Deanna Mevison; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 1900 140th Ave, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.
