In Memory of LilaMae E. Johnson


February 2, 1924 - August 23, 2024

LilaMae Elgeorgia (Glessing) Johnson, age 100, of Rice Lake passed away on August 23, 2024. She was born February 2, 1924, in Barronett, Wisconsin to George and Elsie (Fischer) Glessing.

She was one of 6 children, raised on a farm just east of Barronett; where she also attended General Pershing Country School until she graduated in the eighth grade.

She was married in Cumberland, Wisconsin on June 29, 1940, to Thorvald A. Johnson and they had two children, Sandra and Larry (Bub).

Throughout Lila's life, she worked in various jobs. She served as a nurse aide for many years at the Shell Lake Hospital and for 19 years worked for 3M Company.

Lila was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on November 1, 1969, in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, and was an active and faithful member at the Rice Lake Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She enjoyed spending time outside and taking in all of nature's beauty. She expressed her creativity by writing poetry and making hand-crafted cards with special notes written inside for those she cared about. She also had a talent for playing the harmonica and the accordion.

Family was an important pillar in Lila's life. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved spending as much time as she could connecting with family whether it be over a lengthy telephone call or in person, it always put a smile on her face and filled her heart with joy.

She leaves behind her 1 son, Larry (LaVerne) Johnson; 7 grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Schultz, Lisa (Jeff) Lewellyn, Lynell (Shawn) Johnson, Linda (Craig Schroeder) Linn, Joanie (Dennis Kittelson) White, Debbie Meyer, Jerry (Kris) Zappa; 14 Great-Grandchildren, Lance Schultz, Ashley Schultz, Nicole Lewellyn, Travis Lewellyn, Brooke Johnson, Colton Zwilling, Gabby Linn, Gavin Linn, Landon White, Dionne Capuzzi, DJ Capuzzi, Brandy Brenizer, Easton Miller, and Samantha Zappa; 20 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and many dear friends and extended family. She will be deeply missed.

LilaMae is preceded in death by her parents, George and Elsie; husband, Thorvald; siblings, Wilfred (Sam), Robert (Butch), Norbert (Nubby), Herbert (Mick), LaVerna (Girlie); and her daughter Sandra May Strauch.

A memorial service will be held for LilaMae at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Rice Lake, Wisconsin at a later date.
