In Memory of LeRoy Gutzmer
LeRoy H. Gutzmer, resident of Luck, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.
LeRoy was born May 31, 1932 to Walter and Laura (Mattsen) Gutzmer near Milltown, WI.
He grew up in the Milltown and Luck area and as a young man moved to Chicago, IL. It was here that he met his wife, Devenia Jean Thomas. They raised six children together while living in Illinois, Indiana, and eventually Luck Wisconsin. Most of his adult life, LeRoy worked as an ironworker. Projects big and small took him around the country where he used his welding and iron working skills. In retirement, LeRoy spent his time working in his shop. He always had an engine rebuild or other vehicle repairs and maintenance in progress. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with family. LeRoy was always up for a road trip. It did not matter if it was a long distance trip to visit family or down the road to check in with a neighbor. He enjoyed being on the road. Most people who knew LeRoy would agree he was a person of integrity. They would also agree that he was always willing to reach out and offer a helping hand in a time of need. He will be missed by many.
LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Devinia Jean, and two brothers, Gerald and Vernon. He is survived by siblings Lauretta Peterson, Ruth Ann Knief, Joyce (Paul) Kessler, James (Holly), Jack (Carol), Charles (Beverly). His children: Walter (Paulino), Michael (Youra), Laura (Alan) Schultz), Gay (Dan) Gee, Sherry (Gary) Matteau, and Chris (Amanda). Also, many nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Due to family considerations and covid 19 conditions, a celebration of life honoring LeRoy will take place this summer at a time and place to be determined.
Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home.
