In Memory of Lee C. Swan

March 15, 1938 - June 10, 2024

Lee Carl Swan, age 86, of Rice Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 10, 2024.

Lee was born March 15, 1938, to Elvin and Freda Swan in the Town of Barron. He was the middle child of 7.

Lee grew up on a farm a few miles north of Barron. He attended Pleasant Hill School with his brothers and sisters, and then graduated from Barron Senior High in 1956.

He married Marlys Broker on March 12, 1960, at Maranatha Free Church in Rice Lake. They had two children, Eric and Suzanne. Before the children started school, the family started attending First Baptist Church in Barron. Lee and Marlys enjoyed volunteering in various ways at the church over the years.

Lee had a few different jobs in those early years including working at a local lumber yard, as a carpenter, and at Jerome Foods hauling feed to their local turkey farms. He also farmed with a neighboring farmer for a few years until he was able to purchase his own dairy farm.

With over 30 years of farming, Lee and Marlys retired from dairy farming and sold the property, except for a corner of the acreage, which they kept to build a new house for their retirement.

Lee then resumed his carpentry, shuttled cars for a local auto dealership, volunteered at Hungry Hollow Steam & Gas Engine Club, and worked for the Town of Barron.

Lee suffered a stroke in September 2023. After spending several months in the hospital, rehab, and nursing care, he was excited to move back to his own house with hospice care.

Lee is survived by his daughter, Suzanne (Monty) Winkelman; grandchildren, Nathaniel Oney and Gabriella Rosales Gonzales; sisters, Kay Bliss and Patricia (Arvin) Wilson; sisters-in-law, Esther Swan and Adeline Swan; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Freda Swan; wife, Marlys; son, Eric; brothers, Donald, Allen and Lynn Swan; sister, Sandra Ryan; sister-in-law, Lydia Swan; and brother-in-law, Michael Bliss.

We will miss him here, but we are thankful that he has been welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Barron with Rev. Floyd Lunde officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
