In Memory of Laurie L. Sabel


May 23, 1956 - May 1, 2023

Laurie Louise (Clayton) Sabel age 66, of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in Chandler, AZ, on May 1, 2023, surrounded by family.

Laurie was born to John and Bonnie Clayton on May 23, 1956, in St. Croix Falls, WI. Laurie graduated from SCF High School in 1974. After high school, Laurie attended UW Stout, graduating in 1977 with a Family and Consumer Science degree. On June 17, 1978, Laurie married her college sweetheart Mark Steven Sabel. They had two children, Benjamin and Valerie. They owned and operated Clayton Hardware Hank.

Laurie taught Family and Consumer Science for the SCF School District for 28 years. She took great pride in implementing the School to Work Program. After retirement Laurie and Mark spent their winters at Robson Ranch in Eloy, AZ.

Laurie loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and sewing an endless amount of quilts.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Clayton, nephew John Clayton and great-nephew Michael Clayton.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Sabel of St. Croix Falls, WI; son Benjamin (Kelly) Sabel of St. Croix Falls, WI: daughter Valerie (Kris) Middleton of Vail, AZ; grandchildren, Owen, Isabella, Magnolia, Oliver, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Clayton of Gig Harbor, WA; Sister-in-law Pam Clayton of St. Paul, MN; Uncle Charlie (Marilou) Lundberg of Costa Mesa, CA; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Laurie’s services will be at the First Presbyterian Church of St. Croix Falls on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. Pastor David Maghakian will officiate the service. Laurie will be interred at the Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylors Falls, MN, at a later date.
