Laura Regina Shipla Age 91, of Rice Lake, WI, died Friday, July 22, 2022 in Rice Lake.

She was born on November 9, 1930 in Almena, WI to Michael and Mary (Neubauer) Stauner.

Laura attended school to the 8th grade and later in life she received her GED when she was in her 70s. She was married to Gerald Wuorenma on August 22, 1951 and he preceded her in death, she later married Paul Dean Shipla on February 14, 1995 and he preceded her in death. Laura was a waitress in the Barron Restaurant in Barron, WI, King Edward Inn in Rice Lake, Lehman’s Supper Club in Rice Lake, Petes Landing and The Spot in Chetek and Mark’s Family Restaurant in Rice Lake. She loved to read, knit, crotchet and loved to winter in Arizona. Laura was a lifetime member of the Barron VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son-in-law, Bruce Thunberg; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie (James) Vincent, Russell Johnson, Brian Thunberg and Brent Thunberg; 2 sisters, Carol Hendricks and Theresa Envall; a brother, Peter (Debra) Stauner; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Wuorenma and Paul Dean Shipla; a daughter, Judy Thunberg; parents, Michael and Mary Stauner; 3 sisters, Josephine Gubbin, Rose Klingelhoets and Margaret Homme; a brother, Albert “Fuzzy” Stauner and an infant brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Monday, August 1, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment in Swede Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 9-11AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Barron VFW Auxiliary.
