In Memory of Kevin A. Peters
Kevin Aubrey Peters was born a perfectly beautiful boy to Charles A Peters III and Ingeborg A Peters on December 13, 1967 at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. Within a few months he began having medical issues that doctors could not pinpoint or give a label. It was the beginning of many challenges that caused doctors to give his parents a sad diagnosis, not expecting him to live to be five years old. Kevin exceeded all expectations and lived a beautiful and fulfilling life despite his challenges. When Kevin passed away on the evening of December 6, 2023, he was 55 years old, just a week shy of his 56th birthday, and with more than 50 extras birthdays than doctors predicted!!
Kevin proved that it is not the challenges with which we are dealt that define us, but what we do throughout our lives, despite those challenges. Since his infancy, Kevin has proven the odds wrong! His life was blessed by a devoted mother who was an angel to him. She knew that Kevin was a very special soul and she dedicated her life to teaching and encouraging him to excel and reach for the stars.
School wasn’t easy for him as kids can be cruel. Despite others’ unkindness, Kevin found his path at school and became a great student. His parents gave him the opportunity to gain an advanced education after high school. He took advantage of the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Midwestern State University, a Master of Education from University of North Texas, and a nearly completed Master of Legal Informatics from University of North Texas. Kevin loved to learn and had more topics of information that he was willing to share with anyone he could get to listen. We are sure he had a full library memorized!
Kevin was fluent in German and Spanish. He loved speaking with his mother in her native German tongue and loved that no one else in the family was fluent enough to join their private club. He also looked for anyone with whom he could speak Spanish and currently had a friend in Venezuela who he chatted with weekly. He was improving his Spanish and learning about Venezuela in case anyone needed to write a book report ;-).
Music was an important part of Kevin’s daily life. He loved the piano and mostly played by ear. The last few years, he was taking specialized lessons to improve and learn new chord skills. He could literally play for hours and was more than happy to play anything jazz for any listening ear.
Kevin dreamed of having his own family, and on August 10, 2007, he made that dream come true. He married Karen Renee Herndon in the Dallas Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Their love for each other is exemplary! They never let their personal circumstances limit their ability to love each other and have literally stood side by side for the last 16 years! They had three unsuccessful pregnancies, but never gave up hope to build their family. In the meantime, they gave their love to their fur babies, Missy and Eva.
In 2017 Kevin was diagnosed with colon cancer. Kevin’s example of long suffering with this disease was inspiring. Karen’s care and devotion to Kevin were tremendous. With constant courage, perseverance, and a compassionate and dedicated team of doctors at Marshfield Cancer Center, Kevin and Karen fought a ferocious fight. Kevin was the eternal optimist and Karen was the unwavering caregiver. She was by his side every moment, never giving up hope and never waning in her love for Kevin. And, Kevin never stopped smiling.
Kevin used his trials and experiences to develop beautiful characteristics. He may have perfected patience, empathy, and kindness. He could love anyone without seeing their flaws and gave undivided attention and great compliments. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He truly tried to emulate the Savior.
We imagine the huge celebration that was waiting for him upon his return home to celebrate his fabulous life’s journey. He was greeted by his dad Charles, his three brothers-in-law, Pepe’, Kash, and Robert and hundreds of others who loved and adored him and cheered from afar during this life. We’re sure his unborn children were there to greet him as well.
He has left behind his imperfect body and his spirit is free to excel and progress to eternal glory. Although we are happy for his beautiful journey and next phase of progression, he will be missed dearly by his wife Karen, his mom Ingeborg, his five siblings Diane, Charles IV, Duane, Michelle, and Jennifer, their spouses, many nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law Barb, extended family and wonderful friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 15741 Guard Street, Hayward Wisconsin. An additional service will be held in Wichita Falls, Texas in January.
