In Memory of Kenneth L. Oman
Kenneth (Ken/Kenny) L. Oman, age 88, of Amery, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Riverbend Assisted Living in Amery.
Ken was born on October 28, 1933 on the farm southwest of Amery in Black Brook Township to parents Oscar and Ella Oman.
He was baptized and confirmed at East Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Amery. He attended Pleasant View Country School from grades 1-8, Amery High School, and then worked on the family farm milking cows until 1965. During this time he participated in the Twin Cities Single Lutheran Young Adults where he met the love of his life, Elaine Lentz. They were married on August 31, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. Returning to the farm in Amery, they raised three sons. Ken enjoyed working on the farm, taking care of the land, baling hay to no end on hot summer days, and managing their beef cattle.
Attending the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Ken completed a master’s degree in elementary education, and then taught 5th grade in New Richmond, WI for one year, followed by a 21 year career of teaching 6th and 4th grade in Amery. Ken and Elaine enjoyed friends and travel, especially visiting cousins and friends they met in Norway, Sweden, Germany and Luxembourg. They had a special trip to the Holy Land, and many trips to Canada picking blueberries and fishing. In addition, Ken enjoyed woodworking, carving, gardening, playing accordion, piano, harmonica, and practical jokes. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway and the Swedish Club.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lyman. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Elaine; children Paul (Jana) of Deer Park, WI; Mark (Meredith) of Amery, WI; and John (Laura) of Chaska, MN; 8 grandchildren: Tommy, Kelsey, Emily, Carl, Allison, Jacob, Zachary and Nathan; niece Mary (Jim) Kassebaum and their son, Caleb of Severna Park, MD.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 4-7 PM at Williamson-White Funeral Home located at 222 Harriman Ave N, Amery, WI. The funeral will be on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church located at 217 Deronda St. in Amery, WI. There will be a public viewing one hour prior to the funeral service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. A burial will take place at a later date at East Immanuel Cemetery in rural Amery.
