In Memory of Kay Ann Amundsen


October 18, 1945 - May 20, 2024

Kay Ann (Junkans) Amundsen, age 78 of Clear Lake, WI passed away at her home early on Monday, May 20, 2024, surrounded by her family.

KAY ANN (JUNKANS) AMUNDSEN Kay was born on October 18, 1945 to Louis and Olive (Johnson) Junkans. She was the youngest of 4 children. Baptized and confirmed at Moe Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, WI. Kay grew up in Clear Lake, graduating in 1963. Kay went on to receive a degree as a Medical Technologist in Minneapolis, MN. Kay then married her high school sweetheart, Ken Amundsen at Moe Lutheran Church on May 1st, 1965. Kay & Ken started their married life in Minneapolis, MN and soon moved to Hudson, WI. before purchasing their home in Clear Lake. Later they moved to the country to raise their family on a hobby farm in rural Clear Lake. They had 3 children, Shari, Michele & Thomas. In later years they moved to Amery, Wi before returning to Clear Lake where they currently reside at Ridgeview Apartments.

Kay worked initially at Amery hospital and then joined the Amery & Clear Lake Clinics working as a Medical Technologist for 25 years. Kay mainly worked as medical technologist in the lab, but she was also taught to assist in surgery, train new personnel, and worked for several doctors.

In 1986 Ken & Kay bought the Sears Store in Amery, WI. Due to a bad car accident in 1987, they were unable to work so they sold the Sears Store & Hobby farm & moved to Amery. They lived in Amery, WI for many years before moving back to their current home in the town of Clear Lake in 2020.

Kay enjoyed many hobbies over the years, bike riding, many outdoor games and backyard pool gatherings at our hobby farm. She also enjoyed reading, puzzles, quilting, crocheting , playing the accordion and baking. Some of our favorites are her homemade carmel rolls and buns not to forget her perfect lefse she made. Camping and pontoon rides were cherished memories and In later years Kay & Ken enjoyed traveling to Arizona during the winter in their motorhome.

Kay had a strong faith in God and served in many areas over the years as a Sunday school teacher, MOPS teacher, and deaconess. She was a member of East Lincoln Alliance Church. Kay was always willing to help when needed. She always had a spot at the table for those who were alone and frequently had them over for visits and food.

Preceded in death by her parents Louis & Olive Junkans. Her brothers Richard Junkans and Dale Junkans and her sister Elsie Linnell.

Survived by her husband Kenneth Amundsen of Clear Lake, WI and her children Shari (Vincent) Swenson of Plymouth, MN, Michele (Thomas) Marquand of Amery, WI, Thomas (Joni) Amundsen of Amery, WI and her 9 grandchildren: Jessica (Robert) Dockry of Chaska, MN, Rachel (Bret) Day of Maple Grove, MN, Joshua (Taylor) Marquand of Couderay, Wi, John Marquand of Sarona, WI, Joseph Marquand of Amery, WI, Megan Marquand of Cameron, WI, Mackenzie (Malik) Shagosh of DePere, WI, Seth (Grace) Amundsen of Amery, WI & Addison Amundsen of Amery, WI and her 5 great grandchildren: Avaleigh & Hudson Dockry, Mercer & Mayes Shagosh & Kenedi Day.

A Memorial Service will be 11 am on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the East Lincoln Alliance Church in rural Amery, WI with a visitation one hour before the service at the church.

Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
