In Memory of Kathryn (Kathie) A. Schneider

August 22, 1948 - July 27, 2025

Kathryn Alice Schneider, known to friends and family as Kathie, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born on August 22, 1948, in Bremerton, Washington, to Jerome and Elaine Evanson. Kathie was raised in Belview and Sacred Heart, Minnesota, where she attended Sacred Heart High School, graduating in 1966. She was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, a testament to the deep faith she carried throughout her life.

Kathie married Earle (Butch) Meyer Jr. and became the proud mother of two sons, Eric and Jeremy. She later married Lou Schneider on June 23, 1989, and the couple moved to Spooner, Wisconsin, where they made their home for the next 36 years.

Throughout her life, Kathie followed many career paths, always driven by a desire to help others. She worked as a nursing home aide, retail attendant, waitress, special education paraprofessional, dental assistant, health and nutrition counselor, realtor, and an AODA counselor. Kathie was particularly passionate about her work with Native Americans at St. Croix Tribal Health, where she made lasting connections before retiring. She spent part of her retirement years offering communion services to shut-ins through the church.

Kathie was a woman of deep faith, a prayer warrior for all she met. She was a lifelong learner, always exploring new ways to help others through health, fitness, and nutrition. Her love for people and her generous spirit made her a bright light to everyone she encountered.

Her family and friends will remember Kathie for her radiant energy, unwavering kindness, and wonderful sense of humor. She was a people person who never missed an opportunity to listen, offer a kind word, or share a laugh. She was always up-to-date on current events, enjoyed watching her favorite news programs, and kept a keen eye on the weather. Kathie was an avid reader and a dedicated correspondent, keeping in touch with loved ones through cards, letters, and emails.

Kathie had a passion for holiday entertaining and decorating, as well as baking her beloved Norwegian treats, including Berlinerkranser (Norwegian wreath cookies), rosettes, and lefse. She made the best caramel corn and rice crispy bars and was known for her love of early mornings with a cup of coffee. Black and red licorice were always in her cupboard, and she was an early advocate for drinking plenty of water to stay healthy.

Kathie was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Jerome Evanson, and her mother and stepfather, Elaine and Melvin (Pete) Holt. She was also preceded by her sisters, Ingrid Evanson and Lisa Holt Thompson.

Kathie is survived by her husband, Lou Schneider; her sons, Eric (Erin) and Jeremy Meyer; her stepchildren, Curt (Jennifer), Christine, and Steven (Amy) Schneider; her grandchildren, Thomas, William, and Sierra Meyer; and her step-grandchildren, Faith and Foster Schneider. She is also survived by her siblings, Richard (Mary) Evanson, Peter (Karen), and Nancy Holt.

A celebration of Kathie’s life will be held at the Spooner Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30th with visitation at 11:00, memorial service at 12:00 and lunch at 1:00.

Kathie’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her kindness, joy, and faithfulness will be deeply missed by all.
