In Memory of Joseph "Allen" Rich
December 11, 1934 - January 29, 2017
Joseph “Allen” Rich, age 82, died on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Allen was born on December 11, 1934, in Duluth, Minnesota to parents James and Gladys (Allen) Rich. He graduated from Spooner High School – Class of 1952, and then served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean War. On February 23, 1963, he was united in marriage to Nancy Kling in Spooner, Wisconsin. Allen worked as a Pipefitter in the Chicago area and was a proud member of the Union Pipefitters Local 597. After retirement, the couple moved back to Spooner where he was on the initial Board of Directors for the Washburn County War Memorial. Allen enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin Badgers. He also liked to play cards and watch birds from his kitchen window. Allen was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Allen is survived by his wife Nancy, son Jeffrey (Theresa) Rich of Cokato, MN, daughters: Julie Rich of Delavan, WI, Jennifer (Michael McKee) Mott of Lombard, IL, Joanne (Edgar) Ramon of Chicago, IL, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother James Rich and nephew Andrew Rich.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 1pm, at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Fr. Bala as Celebrant. Visitation will be at the Church on Saturday February 18 from 12-1pm. Interment with Military Honors will be at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
