In Memory of John 'Jack' Moin


September 25, 1940 - March 17, 2024

John David "Jack" Moin, 83, of Cable passed away at home on March 17, 2024, in Chisago City, MN. He was born September 25, 1940, in Rice Lake, WI to John and Beulah (McLellan) Moin and grew up near Canton, WI. Jack graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1958.

He worked for Gustafson Ice Cream and Dairy until President Kennedy activated the 32nd Division of the WI National Guard during the Berlin Crisis in 1961 and served at Ft. Lewis, WA. Jack married Patricia Jean Larsen the same year and they were together 31 years. Shortly after in 1966 he went to work for the United Parcel Service and worked there until retiring in 1998.

Jack enjoyed sailing and spending time with his family. Upon retirement, he moved to Cable where he enjoyed biking and cross-county skiing. He participated and worked with the American Birkebeiner cross country ski races and the Chequamegon Fat Tire Mountain bike races in the Cable-Hayward area. Jack also was a groomer for Telemark Lodge and a trail builder for the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association. He enjoyed living where the action was. He had a heart to help others! In 2018, Jack met and married Karilon "Kari" Boeck and they enjoyed traveling. Their time was spent between Cable and Chisago City.

He is survived by his children: David (Tesha) Moin of Barron, Leslie Moin of Vadnais Heights, MN (special friend, Kerrwin Dempsey of Minnetonka, MN); grandchildren: Travis (Becky) Moin of Ft Collins, CO, Tawni (Mark) Hopland of Barron, Jonathan Moin of Cumberland, Kate Weed of Stillwater, MN , Hannah Weed of St. Louis Park, MN, and Grant Weed of Vadnais Heights, MN; great grandchildren: Hailey Sirek of Barron, Hunter and Autumn Moin of Ft. Collins, CO; brother, Arvid Moin; sisters: Sheryl Davis and Kathy Buck; nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Moin and Beulah Greene.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 23, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Canton with Pastor Jason Buck and Ken Mandley officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday, March 22, 2024, at Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake and 30 minutes before the service on Saturday.
