In Memory of Jerry Hochstetler
Jerry Hochstetler passed away on Saturday, September 17th at Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, WI at the age of 91.
He was born May 15, 1931 in Nappanee, Indiana to Levi and Emma Hochstetler. He was preceded in death by all his siblings.
Jerry married Laura Miller on April 7, 1950, enjoying almost 68 years together before her death on March 21, 2018. Three children were born to them; two sons Ernie Lee and Jerry Wayne, both deceased in 1959, and a daughter Kathy Dedenbach (Paul), Murphy, NC.
Over the years, a number of children were adopted into their family; Curtis Hochstetler, Murphy, NC; Dennis Hochstetler (Mary), Spooner, WI; Laurie Kruse (Dennis) Bettendorf, IA; Irene Eby (Glen), Spooner, WI; Cynthia Hanna (Gary), Shell Lake, WI. Into Jerry and Laura’s home were welcomed many foster children as well. Jerry has nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, from Alaska to Florida.
The Hochstetler family lived on a farm in the Stone Lake area for a number of years and then moved to the Spooner area. Jerry bought the AMC-Jeep dealership in Spooner pursuing his love of cars and interacting with people. Over the years, he sold many vehicles including while working as a salesman at other dealerships in Spooner.
His Lord, his family, hunting, mowing lawns, riding motorcycle, and playing cards were some of his greatest enjoyments. He lived life to the fullest.
Public visitation is 10am-11:30am, Saturday, October 1st, at Trego Community Church. A celebration of Jerry’s life will follow. After the service, a luncheon will be served in the church basement. Interment will be at the Spooner Cemetery immediately after the luncheon.
