He enjoyed the daily crossword puzzle, hunting, fishing, golf, construction, music (guitar playing), and especially bowling, scoring a 300 game.

Sam was a member of the National Guard – Red Arrow Division- which cultivated an interest in the Civil War, WWI, and WWII establishing a desire to visit the battlegrounds and sites while reading anything he could get his hands on about those time periods.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Lamovec) of 56 years and sons Thomas (Dosie), grandchildren Molly, Tom, and John, Kansas City, MO, and Daniel (Joanna), grandchildren Maddie and Isaac, Hudson, WI.
