In Memory of Jack E. Conklin

August 19, 1938 - August 2, 2025

Jack Ellis Conklin, age 86, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Mayo Health Systems in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Jack was born on August 19, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elmer and Arline (Edwards) Conklin. As a young man, he proudly joined the U.S. Navy, where he served in multiple roles throughout his military career. Aviation was more than a job for Jack-it was his passion. His dedication to mentorship and instruction reflected a deep desire to lift others up and share his knowledge generously.

Jack began his family in Springbrook, Wisconsin, before life took him east to New Jersey, where he spent many meaningful years. Eventually, he returned to his Wisconsin roots and settled in Spooner, where he met his beloved wife, Carol.

After rediscovering love, the couple ventured to Brooksville, Florida, sharing some of the happiest years of their lives. Wisconsin later called them back once more-this time to Rice Lake, where they lived just a short distance from family.

Jack is survived by his wife, Carol of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; stepdaughter Colleen (Susan Thideman) Kellogg; nephews David (Dawn) Dodge of Trego, Wisconsin, and Ray (Carla) Dodge of Galveston, Texas; nieces Sandy (Dan) Gruhlke of Monticello, Minnesota, Sarah (Kerry) Wicklander of Eagan, Minnesota, and Cathy (Marvin) Jacobs of Spooner, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Arline Conklin; his brother, Robert S. Conklin; and his sister, June E. Dodge.

We remember and honor the life of a remarkable man of faith, wisdom, and quiet strength-a leader whose presence uplifted others and whose life reflected grace, conviction, and curiosity.

Known for his thoughtful spirit and lifelong love of learning, Jack was never afraid to change his mind or consider a new point of view. He believed that growth didn't stop with age and lived each day with openness and purpose.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures-long car rides with loved ones, going out for meals, tackling word finds, and playing endless games on his iPad. These quiet moments reflected a deep contentment and appreciation for the everyday, shared with a heart full of warmth and laughter.

Jack's legacy lives on in the lives he touched through his example-steady, kind, and grounded in faith. He was a man who led not by force, but with compassion, integrity, and wisdom.

In heaven, Jack has new legs and walks without pain, hand in hand with Jesus.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

P.S.

I love you, Jackie
