Herbert “Herb” A. Howe, 91, a resident of Siren passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Burnett Medical Center Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg.

Herb was born on July 12, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to Harry and Mabel Howe.

Herb lived in Richfield, MN and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1947. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1950. He married Helen F. Gfroerer on October 14, 1950 and moved to Crystal, MN.

Herb was an enthusiastic golfer, bowler and loved snowmobiling. He won the first I500 snowmobile race from Winnipeg Canada to St. Paul, MN in 1966, as part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. He opened Howe’s Resort and Campground on Clam Lake in 1976. He was a member of the Siren American Legion Post, a volunteer firefighter for Crystal FD for 22 years, and was a founding member of Overland Trails Snowmobile Club. He was a great husband, dad, and grandpa. He was loved by his family, and Clyde.

Herb was preceded in death by his infant children, Donald and Kathleen; his parents, Harry and Mabel; brothers, Kenneth, Chet and Ray; and sister, Loretta.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Tom (Kathy) Howe, Ron (Deanna) Howe, John (Rosie) Howe, Jeff (Cate) Howe and Mike (Roxanne) Howe; his 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster with Pastor Steve Ward officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 3-6 PM at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Burnett Medical Center Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
