In Memory of Harvey E. Olund


September 17, 1932 - October 2, 2022

Harvey Ernest Olund Age 90, of Birchwood, WI, died Sunday, October 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Harvey was born on September 17, 1932, in Rice Lake, WI, to John and Florence (Westerlund) Olund.

He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1950, attended Technical College and then was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was married to Jean Skar on December 28, 1957, in Birchwood. Harvey graduated with his Bachelors and Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin Stout. He began his teaching career in Goodman, WI, and then retired after 28 years with the Colby School District. After retiring to his home on Long Lake he served several years on the Long Lake Town Board and continued to do construction with his son. Harvey enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, watching sporting events and cross country skiing well into his eighties. Most of all, he loved spending time with his 11 grandchildren. Whether hunting in the woods, fishing on the lake or attending their many sporting events, he was always there for them.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Olund; 4 children, Julie (Jeff) Peissig, Craig (Jaci) Olund, Sue (Dennis) West and Karen Gonyea; 11 grandchildren, Dr. Grant (Kasey) Peissig, Dr. Evan (Kayla) Peissig, Eric (Jacky) Peissig, Katie (Dr. Alex) Paulsen, Ryan Olund, Dr. Emily Olund (Evan), Dr. Derek West (Elizabeth), Taylor (Dr. Emily) West, Adam West (Kenzie), Alec Gonyea (Libby) and Lauren Gonyea (Ian); 8 great grandchildren, Olive, Piper, Lincoln, Colby, Mason, Valerie, Autumn and Olivia; 3 brothers, Leonard (Sue) Olund, Ed Olund and Lloyd Olund; a sister, Elaine Smoots; brother-in-law, Bob and Judy Skar; many special nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister.

Harvey was married to the love of his life, Jean, for 65 years. His four children, Julie, Craig, Sue and Karen were blessed to have him as their father. He will be missed every day.

Funeral Services will be held at Noon, Monday, October 10, 2022 at Long Lake Lutheran Church, Rev. Rodger Prois officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10AM-Noon on Monday at the Church.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Long Lake Lutheran Church or the Birchwood Food Pantry.
