In Memory of Guyon S. Coons

January 4, 1954 - April 15, 2024

Guyon Scott Coons, age 70, of Lac Courte Oreilles, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024.

Guyon was born on January 4, 1954, in Milwaukee. Guyon, the third in a family of seven children was the son of Daryl and Helen (Bailey) Coons. Through a fully active life, Guyon lived in Milwaukee (3 times), Green Bay, Hayward, Eau Claire, Boise, Milwaukee/West Allis, finally residing in Hayward. Guyon had many, many close friends throughout his whole life, friends who often mentioned that he was a Gentle Soul. As an older adult, many of his high school friends asked about him, seeking out the friend they all knew and loved. Guyon had an active and lifelong love of all sports, like his father, and grandfather, Charles Coons who, himself had attended Carlisle Indian School as a young man. In fact, Guyon was named after Joe Guyon, another famous athlete and teammate of his grandfather from Carlisle. Guyon, like his grandfather, was ready at the drop of a hat to watch any, and all sporting events. Beyond sports and his work at AO-Smith in Milwaukee, Guyon’s biggest thrill in life was being involved with his family and friends. Guyon took part in a canoe/camping trip down the Chippewa River, from north of Loretta to Chippewa Falls with his two older brothers. Guyon enjoyed hunting and riding his 1947 Harley. He enjoyed hard work, often helping his friends in their endeavors. He was always ready to stand up for his friends, and always had a ready laugh, with a happy smile, and positive outlook on life. Sports and friends were Guyon’s life. He will be missed by many. Thank you all for loving our brother, father, and grandfather.

Guyon is survived by his daughter, Lisa Schlotz (Jim); grandchildren Nicholas and Claire, all of Milwaukee; Lisa’s mom, Renee Kram (Steve), of Milwaukee; brothers, Daryl, of Hayward, Gordon (Debbie) of Minneapolis; Tim, of Hayward; sisters, Nancy Cavlin (Mike) of Minneapolis; Tessa and Leslie, both of St. Paul., and many cousins, nieces, and nephews….and his many, many loving friends.

Guyon was preceded in death by his parents, Daryl and Helen Coons, both of Hayward, WI.

Tribal Funeral Rites will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Gary Quaderer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Whitefish Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25th at the funeral home.
