Gregory Frederick Peters of Cumberland, Wisconsin passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 31, 2022 at age 74.

Greg was born on December 18, 1947 to George and Regina (Drennen) Peters and was raised in the New York Burroughs.

He lived most of his adult life in the Chicago area before relocating to Cumberland in 2005. Greg was an entrepreneur and active member of his community.

Visitation will be November 11 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland. The funeral service will be held November 12 at 11:00 AM with an hour visitation prior to the service, also at Skinner Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Carlson will officiate. Pall bearers are Ben McKeon, Martha Lyke, Brian Lyke, Sarah, Joel and Beau Kyrola, Juli Relford and Marc Minten. A private internment will be at a later time at the Lakewood Cemetery Garden Mausoleum in Minneapolis. A luncheon following the service will be served at the Timberland Free Lutheran Church.

In 1979, Greg founded Lab Safety Corporation and developed an innovative program for training personnel who work in controlled environments and sterile processing. He led the industry in what would eventually be the standardized and federally regulated procedures and qualifications required for facilities and personnel engaged in critical sterile compounding. Eventually, as the business expanded and evolved, Lab Safety and its offshoot Valiteq relocated to Cumberland. In addition to these core businesses, he and his partner, Marghi McKeon, fulfilled a long-time dream by opening the 20-mile Organic and Local General Store and creating an amazing and unique line of organic frozen custard.

Greg was proud to have served his country in the Armed Forces from February 1968 to January 1970. Following his term of duty, Greg enrolled in an air commerce program at Central Texas College and eventually became commercially licensed and instrument rated for both fixed-wing multi-engine and rotorcraft. He later flew Ultralights as an instructor and as a beloved hobby. He loved the exhilarating feel of soaring through the sky with an open horizon before him. Being somewhat of a Renaissance man, Greg was also a highly skilled self-taught jazz pianist and musician, who enjoyed playing to live crowds and also recorded numerous studio projects. He was a writer of both professional scientific literature and science fiction stories, as well as an excellent cook, and was a connoisseur of fine foods and fast cars.

Greg is survived by his loving partner of more than 36 years, Marghi McKeon; his stepchildren Ben McKeon and Martha and Brian Lyke; granddaughter Lilly Lyke; brothers and sister David Farlow and Ralph and Katha Tjelta; nieces and nephews Joel and Sarah Kyrola (Beau, April, Hope), Peter and Jodi Tjelta (Malinda, Ian, Emily, Faith, Jacob), Jessica (Mick) Farlow (Kristy, Jimmy), Chance Farlow, and other loving family.

In lieu of flowers, Greg would have appreciated a donation to a charity close to his heart, the Shriners Hospitals for Children, which cared for him as a young boy when he was in an iron lung with polio.
