In Memory of Greg Rayment
Greg Rayment, 70, of Almena died Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Cumberland Healthcare.
He was born March 28, 1952 in Rice Lake to William and Gertrude (Krecker) Rayment. He graduated from Barron High School in 1970, began working for the Township of Almena and joined the Army National Guard. He was married on April 25, 1971 to Linda Nelson.
After several years, Greg founded Greg's Excavating, which he would operate successfully until the present. He retired from the National Guard as Command Sergeant Major, the Almena Fire Department as Chief, and was currently serving as Almena Village Board President. He was a member of the Almena Commercial Club, was very active in his church in both leadership as well as with the choir, and he volunteered for many years at the Barron County Fair.
In his spare time, he pulled his John Deere 6030, lovingly named Wind 'er Up, later adding the moniker "Reloaded" after a few upgrades. He also enjoyed riding ATV, RV camping, hunting and ice fishing.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Vince) Wohlk of Almena; grandchildren: Derek, Jacob, and Alison Wohlk; step grandchildren: Tyler (Molly) Wohlk, and Elyse (Nathan) Anderson; great grandson, Charlie Wohlk; step great-grandchildren: Parker, Ezra and Nehemiah; his loving companion, Debbie Thill of Almena, and her family; children: Jamie (Daniel) Donath and Jackson (Jessica) Dreyer; and little ones Chesney and Ethan; his brothers: Bill (Lou) Wichart of Hudson, CO, and James (Bev) Wichart of Barron; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Becky Tripp.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 13, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Almena with Deacon Steve Welter officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Fall, Gary Krecker, Jim Sparish, Jim Salsbury, Dan Schullo, and Pete McGiffin. Honorary pallbearers are Derek Wohlk, Jacob Wohlk, Alison Wohlk, Tyler Wohlk, Elyse Anderson, and Charlie Wohlk. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 12, at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and for 1 hour prior to the service on Monday, March 13, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be directed according to Greg's wishes.
