In Memory of Gordon K. Galetka


May 18, 1938 - August 31, 2024

Gordon King Gregory Galetka, age 86, died peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Ladysmith Care & Rehab.

He was born on May 18, 1938 in Glen Flora, WI to John and Eleanor (King) Galetka. He graduated from Ingram-Glen Flora High School in 1956 and attended UW-Eau Claire on a basketball scholarship for a short period of time. He married Marie (Erben) on January 23, 1960 in Stetsonville, WI. They began their family in Milwaukee, WI and then moved to Oak Creek, WI for the majority of his life until Marie passed away in 2010 with 50 years of marriage. He moved to her homestead in Stetsonville, WI for about 10 years then to Medford, WI for several more and back to his old stomping grounds for the last year. When he lived in southeastern Wisconsin he worked for Harnischfeger (P&H). Gordy, as his friends called him, or "Sonny" by his 11 siblings (7 sisters & 4 brothers), enjoyed sports (especially basketball), being out-of-doors hunting and fishing, traveling and playing cards.

Survived by his children: Gregory Galetka, Linda (Mark) Coe, Judy (Ken) Hedler and Nancy (Todd) Avery; grandchildren: Stephanie Coe (Seth Quiggle), Vanessa (Jay) Gagner, Austin Hedler, Forrest Galetka, Shannon Galetka, Jeremy Hedler and Brittany (Jonathon) Irigoyen; great grandchildren: Adeline Gagner and Vincent Gagner; siblings: Joann (Gilbert) Duddles, Marilyn Krueger, John Galetka, GayAnn Wroblewski, Patrick Galetka, Mike (Colleen) Galetka, Lenore (Jay) Lawton, and Gloria Galetka. Preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Erben) Galetka; parents: John and Eleanor Galetka; siblings: Joyce Galetka, Carol Mae Galetka and Monte Galetka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church in Tony, Wisconsin, Father Papi & Deacon Craig Volberg officiating, with interment in the Ingram Cemetery in Ingram, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is assisting and serving the family with the arrangements.
