In Memory of Geraldine A. Gregory
Geraldine (Gerry) Gregory 86, passed peacefully on May 2, 2023 In Hayward, WI at Waters Edge Senior Living Facility.
Gerry was born September 1, 1936 In Chicago, IL to Henry and Minerva LeMaire. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Hank and sister Phyllis Hurst. Her sister Betty Heaster survives.
She grew up in the Palmer Park area and was a proud graduate of Fenger High school in 1954. Gerry was a baseball fan of the Chicago White Sox and for football enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears.
Gerry was married to Dennis W, Gregory on September 29, 1956 and had 5 children, Dane (Barb), Joseph (died shortly after birth) Doug (Brenda), Denise (Dan) and Michael (Linda). Her husband passed on March 7, 2021
Early in married life she was a homemaker and raised her family on the South Side of Chicago and was a volunteer for Roseland Little League and a member of the Rosary Society of St. Catherine of Genoa parish.
She did not drive until a bit later in life and many days you could see her shepherding her 4 children around the neighborhood for shopping, running errands or family photographs. She was truly a devoted mother and family meant everything to her.
Later she worked for West Pullman Savings and Loan in West Pullman for many years and later when the family moved to Lansing, IL, she worked for the new branch of the bank in Orland Park, IL.
In 1977 she and Dennis moved to Hayward, WI and opened Gregory’s Knotty Pine Resort on Lac Courte Oreilles, a full-service weekly housekeeping cabin resort. The couple ran the resort for many years, later selling off the cabins as condominiums. Gerry worked outside the business also first for State Bank of Hayward and later with P&V Enterprises and Tony’s Candies. After retirement she got to spend more time with her 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Gerry was a fabulous cook and took great care of her family. She was loyal and loving to her parents and siblings and grew to love them more each and every day. In her later days spending time with her children was very important to her. She loved when they would all be together and enjoyed their company to her last days. She was the best Mom any of us could ever ask for.
She loved her time at Waters Edge and raved about the staff and nurses that were her care team for the last two and a half years. She developed many friendships while residing there and was blessed to have each and every one of them in her life.
